Elder Kenneth Ptomey Obituary

Elder Kenneth Ptomey, 70, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at his residence. Kenneth was the son of the late Charles H. Ptomey and late Arlene Kendall and was born July 5, 1954. Kenneth was raised in the Hill District and attended Westinghouse and Fifth Avenue High School. He learned important life skills under the tutelage of late Cornelius “Bud” and Juanita Parker as a teen. He had several brothers and sisters between his natural parents and his foster parents. Kenneth served in the United States Marine Corps, fulfilling a deployment in Okinawa, Japan. After discharge, Kenneth moved into the sanitation industry and was employed by the City of Pittsburgh and retired after twenty-seven years. Kenneth was afforded the entrepreneurial opportunity and launch his painting business called “Paint Spots’ where he serviced multiple homes and businesses in the Pittsburgh region. Kenneth completed and graduated from the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council Center Reading Program in 2001. In 1974, Kenneth Ptomey and Mary Morant married, and they had three children, Marcus, Arlena and Keith Ptomey, “KP Jr”. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Revival Center Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Dan Sr., Anne Ofchinick and late Pastor Dan Jr. He gave his life to Jesus Christ there and made many Christian friends, including Winifred Craig Timothy Fitzgerald, Stanley Jaworski, Mary Beasley, and his best friend, the late Catelyou Myers. Kenneth struggled with addictions; but, thanks to GOD, he beat all odds-and on September 10, 1991, he conquered his addictions and remained clean and sober for thirty-three years. He was a member of Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous, where he was a sponsor and became the ultimate example of how to overcome adversity by living out the phrase “Keep coming back, it works if you work it.” In 1998, Kenneth met Mary Anne Malrey at “Heaven night club in downtown Pittsburgh, and six months later they were united in married and remain married for 26.9999 years until his final days. Together serving God and his church Kenneth stepped into his calling as an Elder under the leadership of Bro. Dan Ofchinick Jr., Sister June and Pastor Pudge. He also developed a friendship with Apostle Maurice C. Trent Jr. of The Lighthouse Cathedral.  Kenneth and Mary attended Another Level Ministries and served under Pastor Jay and Pastor Tiffany Gilbert. He leaves many cherished memories to his wife, Mary Anne Malrey-Ptomey, children, Marcus (Jessica) Ptomey, Arlena, the favorite (Tyrone) Ptomey-Strong and Keith Ptomey, grandchildren, Breonna Thorne, Rhyla Rosemary Ptomey, Yetysha and Tyneen Haywood, great-grandchildren, Z’yara Arlena Marie Thorne, Zyon Thorne, Robin Jackson and Josiah Haywood, brothers, Eugene (Toni) Ptomey, Terrance Grace, John (Maria) Parker, sisters, Lisa Jefferson-Ptomey and Vanessa Robinson, sister-in-law, JoAnn Plummer, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He also leaves many friends, church members, former co-workers, NA and AA members, and a very special next-door neighbors Mark and Deborah Matasich and JoAnne Deluca who are greatly appreciated for their help throughout the years. Preceding in death are his parents, foster parents, former pastors, and best friend, brothers, Benny Kendall, Jimmy Kendall, Charles H. Ptomey Jr. and Brian Parker, sisters, Brenda Anderson, Maragaret Kendall and Shirley Watson.
