Louise Christian Obituary

Louise “Bessie” Lowry-Christian, 93, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2024. Bessie was born on September 13, 1930 to the late William and Vivian Lowry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bessie dropped out of the ninth grade to take care of her mother. On July 12, 1949, she married George Ronald Christian, and they were united for forty-four years, until his passing on September 5, 1993. From their union they had three sons, Norman, Richard and Douglas. Bessie was a housekeeper for over forty years until she retired in her early eighties. She enjoyed going to the Ice Capades, the circus, plays, and especially trips to Hawaii with her sister Joan.  In addition, she enjoyed gardening in her back yard. We can all say that our beloved Bessie loved, loved her coffee. She accepted the Lord as her Savior in the spring of 1967. Bessie, attended Lighthouse Cathedral for over thirty years under the leadership of the late Bishop Maurice Trent Sr. and Apostle Maurice Trent Jr. She served as the Mother of the church and secretary. Bessie loved and served the Lord all her adult life and did it with gladness. She loved going to church and participating in events which included baking and cooking. It was told to her by others that she had the gift of helping and serving. In her service to the Lord, she brought her parents and siblings to Christ. Her greatest joy besides serving the Lord was being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother of the church. She showed us what it was like to be a virtuous woman of God (Proverbs 31). Bessie was a sweet and gentle soul with the heart of gold and was loved by all who knew her. Her prayer was that every member of her family would be saved, and she would see them all in heaven. Bessie will live on through her son Douglas (Karen), grandchildren, Andre, Jade, Charisse, Scott, Brian, Camille, Derrick, Michael, Angelique, great-grandchildren, Romeo, Kiana, Ashley, Elijah, Brittany, Ariannah, Alexandria, Delaney, Nadia and Jaden, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Bessie is preceded in death by her nine siblings, Delores, William Jr., Elaine, Joan, Walter "Tubby", Ronald "Butchie", Donald, Shirley and Larry, also her sons, Norman and Richard.
