Randolph McCray Obituary

Randolph McCray, 61, was born on April 21, 1962 at Shadyside Hospital (Sunrise) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Affectionately known as Randy, by his wife, parents and siblings, Randy left peacefully to join his Lord and Savior in heaven on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at home (Sunset) surrounded by loving family and friends. The oldest son of the late William Holmes and Eileen McCray-Tyler. Randy married Elvie Hutchinson-McCray, the love of his life and faithful companion at Cleaves Temple Baptist Church on the Southside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1995.

Randy attended the Pittsburgh Public School System graduating from Carrick High School in June 1981. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the Army and served for three years as part of the United States Army Transportation Corps at Fort Eustis Virginia as an 88(K) Watercraft Operator and Cargo Specialist. After active duty, Randy returned to Pittsburgh where he enrolled at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, majoring in Graphic Design as a mixed media artist.

Randy could draw or paint anything. There were no limits to his artistic imagination. As an artist he created artwork using different types of media and materials to include, oil, acrylic, or watercolor paints. He was a master of chalk, ink and pencil drawing/sketching and portrait or landscape painting. Art truly was Randy’s first love. A man of many talents, Randy worked for years in various neighborhoods around City of Pittsburgh at barber shops and as a mobile barber after he graduated from barber school.

Randy worked at the Pittsburgh Steakhouse as first line cook, the YWCA as a lifeguard for handicap swimmers (Ammon Pool), at the Saint Clair Village Pool as a lifeguard, at the University of Pittsburgh Dining Facility as a cook/line server and most recently for Compass Group at the University of Pittsburgh as a cook/line server. Randy painted houses, installed drywall, hardwood and ceramic style flooring as a freelance construction worker/handy man and laborer.

Throughout his life, Randy was a devoted family man as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and Man of God. Outgoing and popular around the City of Pittsburgh, he was highly regarded and well-loved by all. As a community servant in ministry at Lighthouse Cathedral as a Deacon, Randy gave his life to the Lord and served faithfully as part of the Lighthouse Cathedral ministry with Apostle Maurice C. Trent Jr., until God called him home.

Randy is survived by his wife, Deaconess Elvie Hutchison-McCray, daughters, Brandi, Deenesha, Randeua (Surron) and Chenea, sons, MacKenzie, Maurice, Randolph Jr., Frankie, Quinn, Willie, Anthony, and Dwonne, sisters, Vernadean (Clem), Janie (David), Nicole (Sharrone) and Raenell, brother, Martin (Hannah), twenty-five grandchildren, two soon-to-be grandbabies, two great-grandchildren, step-father, Ray Tyler, a host of other family members, church members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Eileen McCray-Tyler, his father, William Homes, his son, Anthony McCray, and sister, Tory Lynn McCray Tyler.

Randy, you were my best friend. I’m going to miss you so much. We laughed all night until we went to sleep. It's not goodbye, but “See You Later”.------Love you Honey Bunny, Your wife
