Randy Joe Howard – “Ricky” aka John Black
Ricky departed this life on July 7, 2025, at 12:12 p.m., held in spirit and love by those who knew him best. Ricky was born on June 29, 1959, to the late Priscilla Hickman. Raised in the historic Hill District, he was a proud graduate of Schenley High School.
Throughout his life, Ricky held various jobs, but his most lasting work was the joy he gave to others through his laughter, love, and vibrant personality. Ricky was the life of every room he entered. He had a deep love for dancing, music and cooking — passions he shared freely and with great joy. He was a natural with children, often babysitting and forming special bonds that brought light into their lives. A jokester at heart, he never passed up the chance to make someone laugh, and his giving, caring spirit left a mark on everyone he met. He had a bold sense of style and a personality to match. Ricky didn’t just wear fashion— he was fashion. His signature sayings will continue to echo in our hearts:
“Solider Told you.”
“You think it’s a game.”
Ricky is survived by his loving daughters, Dena (Ron) Rivers and Charmel Pollard; his cherished granddaughter, I’Nyia Young-Rivers; and his siblings, Greg and Mary Howard. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews; his aunt Ann, who affectionately called him Rick Dog; his significant other of ten years, Kim Goins; and many beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla
Hickman; his son, Jarrell Green; and his siblings, Stanley Howard and Robin Edge.
To know Ricky was to be part of his world — a world full of music, flavor, laughter, and love. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit continues to dance in every beat, every smile, and every joyful memory. Rest in peace, Ricky. You lived out loud, and you are loved beyond words.
