Todd Detwiler Obituary

Todd Vincent Detwiler, affectionately known as ‘Woogie,’ went to his eternal home on September 14, 2025. He was the fourth child of Frank William Detwiler, Jr. and Reverend Dr. Shirley Brown, born on November 18, 1963.  He grew up in the close-knit town of Library, PA and was a bright smile in the lives of all who knew him.  As a youth he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized, and became a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  He was educated in the South Park School District, and was a proud member of the Eagles basketball and football teams and graduated from South Park H. S. class of 1982.

His desire to enlist in the military was thwarted by an unfortunate skateboard accident.  He tried many professions throughout his lifetime but found his love and place in construction. Todd was known as a very hard worker and for the quality of his work.  He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and spent time in the word of God and the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Two of his favorite writings were:  “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; let him know that he which converted the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins” (James 5: 19-20), and “Let no man pull you so low as to hate him” (Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)

Todd was a ride or die Steeler fan often celebrating their victories with family and friends.  At cookouts he would be the one manning the grill, and at church functions he would be the first to assist with setup and cleanup.  He had a clever sense of humor and a slew of sayings for which he was known (“it ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun; you ain’t said nothing slick to a can of oil”).  He was the neighborhood barber and always had his clippers in tow.  His outward persona of toughness and ruggedness cloaked his inner self (“soft as cotton,” he would say) that

would be displayed in his poetry writings.  Todd’s friends and family knew his favorite movie to be ‘Tombstone,’ and that he was a popcorn and ice cream aficionado. Todd deeply loved all his children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, cousins, friends and church family.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather (Pastor Charles Brown), and niece (Amber Detwiler). His legacy will be carried on by those whom he loved, and who loved him. His children: Todd Lamont Detwiler, West Mifflin, PA, Brandon Detwiler (Anna), Pittsburgh, PA, Leyland Brady Beckam, Pittsburgh, PA, Chaday Marie Fleming, Bridgeville, PA, Shamari Jones, Summerville, South Carolina, Treyvonn Vinntae Revis, Clairton, PA, Taymond Vinntez Revis, Clairton, PA, Joshi Charlynne Detwiler, McKeesport, PA, and Rhanyah Leigh Cooper, McKeesport, PA.  Sisters Reverend Chrystal Matuscak (Randolph), Montgomery, AL, and April Thacker (John), Columbia, SC, and brothers Frank William Detwiler III, Raleigh, NC, and Cory Darnell Detwiler, Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins, stepbrothers and stepsisters, and a host of friends.
