Life Reflections of Tyrone Tyler

Tyrone Tyler, known to some as “Ty” was born June 27, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the eighth of nine children born to the late, Patricia Ann Tyler Harper and his father, the late Sherman Strider. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Harper, and five brothers Arnold, Eugene, Robert, Harry, and Darnell. Tyrone’s final chapter, in this life, came to a close on January 27, 2023, at his residence in Pittsburgh, PA.

Tyrone attended and graduated from the Pittsburgh Public Schools.  Tyrone met Charlene Jackson and from this relationship his oldest son, Tyrone Jackson, and youngest daughter, Cherice Jackson, were born.  Tyrone met Toni Johnson and from this relationship his second son Derrick Johnson was born.  He then met and married Cynthia Pender and from this union his third child was born, daughter Dr. Tamirra Robinson.  

Tyrone loved driving and became employed as a driver for the Greyhound Bus Transit Company for over 10 years.  Tyrone would drive you anywhere, he loved being on the road, he was well known for his green Thunderbird and loved showing it off. 

After employment with Greyhound, he became employed with the Allegheny Correctional Health Services for over 9 years.  Tyrone also held various jobs driving for companies part-time while working full-time.  He then became employed by the Allegheny County Health Department in 2010 until his untimely diagnosis of cancer that would not allow him to work, so he retired in 2020.

Tyrone was an active member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church he joined on March 4, 2008 and rededicated his life to Christ in November of 2020, he was very happy and said it felt great.  His favorite sayings were “all is well” and “checking in and checking on you.”

He was a wonderful father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His love and caring spirit will definitely be missed. He always gave his best and was there when you needed him.  Tyrone was the life of the party and loved to dance “shaking his booty.”  You couldn't help but love him. 

Tyrone leaves wonderful memories to cherish for: his children, two sons, Tyrone Anthony Jackson (Lydia Dipofi) and Derrick Anthony Johnson (Candace); two daughters Dr. Tamirra Robinson of Jacksonville, Florida and Cherice Jackson; three sisters, Wanda Harris (Bruce, Sr.), Ella Tyler (Walter, Sr.), Willa Mae Harper ( Maurice); six grandchildren, Micah Anthony and Zaria Leigh Johnson, Bella Castiglione, Aries Bey, Anthony, and Aniyah Jackson and Sterling Reid on the way; two aunts, Roberta Tyler and Clarissa Frazier and one uncle, Ray Tyler, four sisters-in-law, Joelann Tyler, Patricia Tyler, Charmaine Tyler, and Tory Tyler, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
