William W. "Billy" Saunders, 77, of the Hill District, Pennsylvania, passed away at Presbyterian Hospital on Friday, December 27, 2024. William was the son of the late Helen Saunders. Billy, as many affectual called him attended Fifth Avenue High School and then served in our United States Military in two departments the U.S. Army, from 1969-1971 and the U.S. Navy from 1972-1975. Billy returned back from serving in the military and became a Pittsburgh Firefighter for seventeen years. After completing employment with the Pittsburgh firemen, he became a traveling laborer and completed many projects in the Pittsburgh area. Everyone who knew Billy, saw all that he did for his family because he loved each and every one of them. Billy was known for his dancing (two-step), fishing, shooting pool and darts. He was a member of the Elks club and was known all around the City of Pittsburgh. Many accomplishments that William received are the State Presidential Honors, Grand Exalted Rulers Honor, the Mr. Elks award, the WM Eggleston Award, the State President Emeritus Edward Dawson Award and a Purple Heart.
William is survived by his children, William W. Rose, Marcus W. Saunders, Leslie Morant, Shamika Saunders, sisters, Bernita Saunders, Valerie Davis, Rosemary Saunders, Diana (Vernon) Williams, Carol (Ralph) Patterson and Helen Ward, twenty grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, significant other for many years, Shirley Watts, as well as many Elk members, family and friends. William is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Shirley, Constance and Brenda.
His sisters would like to say that they loved him so much and will miss him dearly.
